We were delighted to be invited to the official opening of the New Gorilla Rain Forest Exhibit at Dublin Zoo especially after we worked on the architectural metalwork package on this project. This project involved the design, fabrication and installation of glass viewing screens set into mildsteel and galvanised frames and structures.
The glass was 42mm thick and each panel weighed approximately 350 kgs. and when working to a 2mm tolerence in these sections things became very difficult at times.
The viewing platform area was fabricated in our workshop in Ballyfoyle and after galvanising we installed this on site by welding and polishing out all the joints to avaoid any damage to the Gorillas.
This window is by far the heaviest we ever installed to date weighing almost 1.5 tonnes.
It was amazing to be working within such a natural enviroment and to how the animals are catered for and accomidated is fantastic and it is a truely wonderful place to visit.
Good work again Lads.
Regards, Martin.
